Handmade Nation

I've been on hold for this book at the portland library for several months now...and I finally have it in my hands. I'm drooling. It is so fun to read about artists and crafters across the U.S. Great book. Here is a blog on the documentary...and I just missed the screening here in portland. darn.

a great 2 months!

well, i've had a great response to my baby books so far! i think there are a lot of people out there like me that had a hard time finding the right baby book! the last 2 months have been so much fun! i'm in the process of working on the 2nd and 3rd year packs as an option to be added to the baby books, as well as the adoption pack and "whimsy girl" book. i'm hoping to have out at the beginning of may. also, i continue to add additional pages (like "first glimpse" for a sonogram picture and "your hands and feet"). my etsy customers are giving me great ideas!

my books will continue to be offered in girl, boy and neutral color palettes and in 4 album colors.

thanks everyone for your great responses on my baby books. it makes my heart smile as i package each book and put it in the mail for a new family!

okay...i'm going to go print more books!

Idea No. 5: Another Pen

okay, so i have a new favorite pen. i found it when i was in the art store last week. It matches the baby books perfectly...a beautiful grayish brown. i've been using the "F" for my son's baby book. it's not too thin and not too thick.

Idea No. 5: A Good Pen

There is something beautiful about your own handwriting. I think it adds meaning to a baby book...no pressure to make pretty little illustrations or bubble letters...just a simple pen that makes your handwriting look its best on the page. Here is a pen I like (click on the pen to see more details...although I never seem to use the thick end of the pen.)

Idea No. 4: Get it down

Get it down, somewhere, anywhere...and add it to your book every few months.

Keep a word document or a notebook handy to jot down funny things, milestones, what you're baby has been up to...You can write them down when they happen and then go back later to record it in your book. (There are so many things I missed with my son, because I didn't have something quick to write it down in...and now I'm thinking, now, when did he get his first tooth?)

Keep It Simple: Idea No. 3

Rather than trying to attached pictures on pages with photo corners or adhesive, use the photo pages included in your book...Then integrate them into the journal pages with each category. It's an easy way to add images without having to worry about a "page layout". Each photo page has room to write a little description on it down the side or the image can be centered in the space with no caption. An easy way to keep up with memories without all the work...now if you can just keep your camera handy!

Baby Book Idea No. 2::

Every month take a picture of your baby in the same location with some sort of prop (in a chair with a pillow or stuffed animal) and you can see how fast they grow. I've added photo pages to my etsy shop to add the month pictures for each month the first year.

Idea No. 1:: ideas for you baby book

with my baby books, there are endless ways to make the book your own...and I thought every month I would post ideas for your baby book...

Idea No. 1:
"I thought it would be great for people to sign the book when they come to the hospital to visit."

baby books coming soon

i'm currently working on baby books that will be for sale on etsy and amazon in the next few weeks! after having such a hard time finding a baby book for my son, thatcher, i've decided to design modern, customizable baby books with pages you can add or subtract. i'm pretty excited about them and can't wait to show them off.

would love your help in deciding on the colors for the album! take a poll on the sidebar and help me decide what colors that will be available. here is a visual of the colors! (sage is the album shown...the colors are actually much prettier in person. they are all very rich colors. the orange isn't too bright, the chartreuse is the perfect modern green, etc...)
